Once again, I’d like to thank the Board of Legislators for their support of me, Mr. Demick, and Mr. Havey in leadership positions for the coming year. I’d also like to congratulate and thank Ian Jones and Rob Christman for their renewed commitment to the People of our County. To outgoing District Attorney Keith Slep: Thank you for your long and faithful service to the public safety.

It’s been said that 2023 was “The Year of the Studies.” As you know, we have just recently completed a study on the current and future needs of our EMS system, as well as a strategic plan to guide our economic development structure and priorities. We’re also in the midst of a comprehensive buildings and space needs assessment, will soon embark on a county-wide water/sewer study and trails master plan, and recognize the dire need for a comprehensive housing study.

In 2024, this Board of Legislators will be tasked with utilizing that valuable information to make sound, meaningful, and fiscally responsible decisions regarding the future of Allegany County.

Thankfully, this Board is supported by excellent County administration, department leaders, and a workforce of unrivaled skill and commitment. Through cooperation and hard work, I’m confident that 2024 will be remembered as a year of action and progress to the significant benefit of all County residents.
