WNY Sculptor Eric Jones creates a Damar Hamlin tribute, overcomes vandals

The epic snow sculpture was vandalized and is now being rebuilt by fan donations

By Andrew Harris

The next chapter in Eric Jones awarding winning career has been more than just art, it has been, as they say, “drama on top of drama.”

Buffalo Bill Damar Hamlin was the subject of the art, whose near-death experience on the field has been the most dramatic storyline in this years NFL season. The tribute by Jones, as seen above, was vandalized before the unveiling. A crushing blow to any artist but Jones immediately took to social media and rallied his, and Damar’s fan base:

“As most of you know just hours after the Damar sculpture was completed it was vandalized. Thousands came out on Sunday to see the sculpture but couldn’t enjoy it. Help me rebuild it…bigger. This being my livelihood, it would be difficult to again donate the necessary resources for another sculpt. If we can raise the base funds I will rebuild it, and donate any extra giving to Damar’s charity. Can you help?”

Of course they helped and in short order. Within hours, Jones had enough funds to pay for a rebuild, and an even larger sculpture than before. He was overwhelmed with the show of support:

“The city of GOOD NEIGHBORS! A big Thank You to everyone who donated to reconstruct the Damar Sculpture! We reached our goal in just hours! I am coordinating with Buffalo Waterfront and local media to begin molding tomorrow. The piece should be completed by Friday afternoon, IT’S GOING TO BE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN BEFORE! stay tuned! #gobills #buffalove
