Wellsville girls sports start off strong

Share:

The fall season is a busy one for girls sports at Wellsville, with five varsity sports and several JV and modified teams competing in the same season, volleyball, soccer, swimming, tennis and cheerleading. All five teams have full squads and are off to a strong start early in the year.

On Saturday, the volleyball team (2-0) won their second tournament of the year with the Genesee Valley Tournament championship. The team also won the prestigious Campbell-Savona Tournament this season and had victories over Bolivar-Richburg and perennial-power Cuba-Rushford.

Wellsville will host Genesee Valley/Belfast on Tuesday in the state-championship volleyball gym (the elementary school gym).

The swim team is also undefeated at 3-0, but one win stands out, a 103-77 victory over Livonia, a league-power for years.

The Lady Sea Lions are back in action Tuesday in Dansville.

The soccer team won a big opening game with Addison and a 2-1 win over Bolivar-Richburg. They stand at 2-3-1 and host Cuba-Rushford on Monday.

The tennis team has had great team and individual success in sectionals. They have only had two matches this season and are home against Addison on Monday.

The cheerleaders perform each home football game.
