After evacuating the building the source of the gas was found to be a carbon monoxide issue. According to Alfred State, the source of the dangerous gas was located, read the college’s full statement:

Please be advised that the Culinary Arts Building on the Wellsville Campus was vacated this afternoon due to reports of feelings of nausea and light-headedness among building occupants. We have identified the likely cause as a localized exposure to carbon monoxide buildup that could lead to the related symptoms with prolonged exposure.

All occupants received medical assessments, with four examined at nearby Jones Memorial Hospital as a precaution. While we have identified and fixed the source, the building will remain temporarily closed until we complete full clearance procedures.”
