By Mark Bloxsom, Candidate, AACS Board of Education
Over the past decade, as a business professor, I have seen the incredible potential of the young people in our area. I have also seen the challenges that they face in a rapidly changing economy. My son is headed to college next year, and his three younger siblings are all exploring their own career paths. The one constant among them is that the future they will face will be very different from the one we are living in today.
Artificial intelligence, automation, and robotics are transforming our society at an incredible speed. My desire to join the school board at Alfred-Almond is not out of frustration with our current board or system, but out of concern for what the future holds. Our board is filled with both knowledge and experience, but I believe that I will add value in a variety of areas. Every modern school board needs members who:
- understand both education and technology. I’ve been a teacher for nearly 15 years and spent the majority of that at a College of Technology.
- understand finance, economics, and taxation. I’m an economist who teaches and consults in all three of these areas.
- value personal responsibility, but also understand emotional intelligence and psychological safety. All three of these areas are cornerstones of my leadership philosophy and personal values.
As an educator and combat veteran, I know the power of listening, collaboration, and practical problem-solving. Serving on the school board is not just about policy; it is about supporting our families, our educators, and our community as a whole. One of my top priorities will be to actively engage with the people and leaders across all the communities that our district serves. To provide our students with the best possible education, we must work together with a common purpose.
I would be honored to earn your vote on May 19th and look forward to working together to build a brighter, more resilient future for all our students.
