Brown, Cooper, Daciw, and Marciano join the NHS
From Genesee Valley Central School,
Four students were inducted into the Genesee Valley Central School (GVCS) Chapter of the National Honor Society in a ceremony on Friday, March 22.
The new inductees included Emily Brown, daughter of Titus Brown and Shannon Cornish; Brayden Cooper, son of Carrie Osterhout; Ryan Daciw, son of Andrew and Valerie Daciw; and Mackenzie Marciano, daughter of Jeff and Kim Marciano.
Each inductee was selected based on earning a minimum GPA of 92% throughout high school and on their commitment to the four pillars esteemed by the National Honor Society: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Travis Ely served as the guest speaker for the ceremony. A 2012 graduate of GVCS, Ely serves as an orthopedic surgeon in Charlotte, North Carolina. In his remarks, he shared some of the opportunities he has had in serving others, both in his everyday job and in his volunteer work.
“Service is not limited to one discipline, setting or area,” Ely commented. “There’s no limit to how big or how small an act of service has to be. Service is using your skills, knowledge, and everything in your position to provide something to someone to better their life.”
During the ceremony, students were presented with their NHS pins and certificates by NHS advisors Sarah Horne and Kim Douglas, as well as superintendent Dr. Brian Schmitt and 7-12 Principal Sara Donlon.
