WELLSVILLE — Tuesday night marked the first time this season that the Wellsville grapplers would meet their match. That came in the shape of Section V and New York State powerhouse, Canisteo-Greenwood.

After each team exchanged a pair of wins to begin the night, the Redskins began to settle in right away after an early 12-6 deficit, as the team would rattle off 10 straight wins on the mat, nine of them by pinfall to set the tone immediately to hand Wellsville their first loss of the season by a 65-12 count over the road.

Shane Davidson would begin the festivities with the opening match at 285 pounds, scoring the pinfall win in just 1:14 to get the Lions on the board. The back-and-forth pace through the lightweight division would pick up with Canisteo-Greenwood’s Connor McCaffery responding to the pinfall with one of his own at 102 pounds, scoring it in just 1:12 after a bushel of near-falls earned points.

Jayden Acker would then follow with what would be Wellsville’s final win of the night at 110 pounds in the midst of a scrappy fight with Cael Stewart. In the third period, Acker came up with an enormous reversal with minimal time remaining to tie their bout at four, but after an injury to Stewart, it was ultimately ruled in favor of the Lions senior via injury decision.

From 118 pounds until the end, it was all Canisteo-Greenwood, as Dylan Depew-Cappadonia dominated his bout against David Clark with a 15-0 technical fall win. Mathias Sharp (126 pounds), Austin Hall (132 pounds), Gavin Bob (138 pounds), Lucas Mason (145 pounds), Colton Havens (152 pounds), Beau Zeh (160 pounds), Keegin Christian (172 pounds), Dominic Dennis (189 pounds) and Braidon Woodward (215 pounds) all recorded pinfall wins, with Zeh grabbing the night’s fastest pin in just 25 seconds over Wellsville’s Ian Perry.

The Lions are now off until next Thursday for holiday tournament action at Allegany-Limestone. The team will return to regular season play over the road on January 3 after break, as they visit Avoca/Prattsburgh in a 6:15 p.m. contest.

Bolivar-Richburg 39, Arkport/Canaseraga 12

ARKPORT — A plethora of forfeits were gathered across Bolivar-Richburg’s road trip to Arkport/Canaseraga on Tuesday. Through it all, just three matches took place on the mat against the host Wolves.

All of which concluded with technical fall victories, as they used four forfeit wins to power up a 39-12 road win in Arkport.

After Caden Allen started with the first forfeit win, the night’s first match would take place right in the heavyweight division with perennial powerhouse Trent Sibble leading off for the Wolverines at 285 pounds, as he went straight down to business against Arkport/Canaseraga’s Ruben Diaz by scoring a fast and advantageous technical fall victory by a 21-5 count to get the Wolverines on the board.

In the lightweight division, three straight forfeit wins were garnered by the visitors in black and red, as James Gleason (102 pounds), Teegan Sibble (110 pounds) and Gary McDowell (118 pounds) all tallied triumphant victories to extend their lead. After a pair of double forfeits, Bolivar-Richburg resumed the action with a Trey Buchholz win over Sage Butcher at 138 pounds, taking the second technical fall win by a 21-6 count.

Arkport/Canaseraga garnered back-to-back forfeit wins at 145 and 152 pounds before the Wolverines saw the scorebook one final time with a match win from Tavyn MacDonell, who recorded his 100th career win this past weekend during tournament action in Jamestown, adding career win No. 101 off a 19-4 technical fall decision over Patrick Stauring at 172 pounds to close out a victorious evening.

The Wolverines will now get set to host their annual two-day Wolverine Scuffle holiday tournament, which begins at 1 p.m. next Wednesday afternoon. Bolivar-Richburg will return to regular season play when the calendar flips to January, as they host the Addison Knights in a 6:15 p.m. bout.
