Michael T. Baldwin Reports

State Police based in Lewis Run say one teenager is dead, another received a suspected serious injury in a single vehicle crash at 1:03 a.m. October 3rd on Forest Road (Fire Road) in Corydon Township in McKean County.

Trooper Timothy Mix said 18-year-old Donovan L. Smith of Shinglehouse was driving north at a high rate of speed when he apparently lost control. Tpr. Mix said the 2020 Dodge Stratus “left the roadway and traveled over an embankment.” He added “as it was in the air the vehicle started to roll onto its passenger side. During this roll it struck a tree with its roof. The vehicle then rotated around the tree and landed back on its wheels facing south.” State Police said both Smith and a passenger, 18-year-old Dakota M. Baker of Bradford, PA, were trapped inside the car. Mix said after they were extricated by fire personnel the passenger was flown to UPMC Hamot Medical Center with suspected serious injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at Bradford Regional Medical Center. Troopers said the primary violation was not driving at a safe speed.
