Local police and Allegany County Sheriff, I-86 road work in Steuben County

A Ulysses woman is in the Potter County Jail facing felony and misdemeanor charges. Coudersport-based state police arrested 40-year-old Laura Mills. Troopers say her charges include aggravated assault attempting to cause or causing bodily injury (a grade F2 felony) as well as simple assault and harassment with physical contact. Friday morning, she was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Kari A. McCleaft and remanded to jail when she couldn’t post $20,000 bail. The judge set a preliminary hearing for June 21st at 10:30 a.m. Mills is being represented by the Potter County Public Defenders Office.

A second arrest has been made in a Town of Friendship larceny case reported in March. State Police Friday morning charged Austin J. Hunt, 43, of Wellsville with felony grand larceny, felony criminal possession of stolen property valued in excess of $3,000 and misdemeanor auto stripping. Hunt was already in the Allegany County Jail on unrelated charges with bail set at $50,000. In the new case, a judge added an extra $10 cash bail! On June 16, Troopers also arrested Jeremiah Edwards of Wellsville for the same charges. He was sent to jail on $25,000 bail.

On May 21st, 2022, at approximately 5:50 PM, Friendship Police arrested a male (40) of Friendship. He was arrested for UNINSURED LIMITED USE VEHICLE (Violation), ATV VIOL:UNREGISTERED (Violation), ATV EQUIP VIOL:NO/ILL HELMET (Violation)  AGG UNLICENSED OPERATION-2ND (Misdemeanor) and CRIM POSS CONTRL SUBST-7TH (Misdemeanor). He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Friendship Town Court at a later date . The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of Law.


Allegany County Sheriff Ricky L. Whitney reports that on June 9, 2022 Deputies arrested Carolyn A Rhodes, age 39 of Bolivar, on a Bench warrant out of Town of Cuba Court. Deputies then transported Rhodes to the Cuba Police Department where she was turned over to Cuba Police Department for processing.

on June 10, 2022 Deputies arrested George B Hadden, age 66 of Cuba, for Criminal Contempt 2nd. Deputies then transported Hadden to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office for processing where he was issued an appearance ticket for Allegany County Supreme Court at a later date for additional court action with Judge Parker presiding.

on June 10, 2022 Deputies arrested a female, age 64 of Cuba, for Criminal Contempt 2nd. Deputies then transported her to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office for processing where she was issued an appearance ticket for Allegany County Supreme Court at a later date for additional court action with Judge Parker presiding.

on June 15, 2022 Deputies arrested a male, age 38 of Rushford, on a Violation of Probation warrant issued out of Allegany County Court. He was then transported by Deputies to the Allegany County Jail where he was held without bail pending arraignment in Allegany County Court with Judge Parker presiding.

on June 16, 2022 Deputies arrested a male, age 33 of Olean, with the assistance of the Cattaraugus County Sheriffs Office on a Family Court warrant issued out of Allegany County Court. He was then transported by Deputies to the Town of Friendship Court with Justice Szucs presiding, where he was remanded to the Allegany County Jail on $2500 bail or $5000 bond. Dibble is due to reappear in Allegany County Family Court at the next available session.

LANE CLOSURES BEGIN MONDAY ALONG I-86 IN STEUBEN COUNTY

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of lane closures beginning Monday, June 20, along I-86 in the Village of Painted Post, Steuben County, to facilitate bridge repairs.

The closures are as follows:

  • Eastbound traffic along I-86 near Exit 43 will be reduced to a single lane between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.to facilitate a project to repair the bridge carrying I-86 over State Route 415.
  • Westbound traffic along I-86 near Exit 43 will be reduced to a single lane between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. to safely accommodate crews working along the highway. 

Work is expected to be complete by the end of June.
