Two ASC wrestlers on the NCAA stage for the first time ever!

For the first time in program history the Alfred State wrestling team had two on the podium on the final day at the NCAA Mideast Regionals on Sunday hosted by Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA.

Mike Galton (Warsaw) and Sean Peterson (Islip) are the first Pioneers ever to place at regionals. Galton went 4-2 in the tournament and finished fourth at 174 while Peterson went 3-3 and took eighth at 141.

The Pioneers placed 14th overall as a team.

Mike Galton-

Day 1

Champ. Round 1 – Galton won by decision over Jackson Brandt (Ursinus College) 0-2 (Dec 8-2).

Quarterfinal – Will Laughlin (University of Scranton) won by decision over Galton (Dec 4-2).

Cons. Round 2 – Galton won by fall over Jared Zenie (College at Brockport) 12-15 (Fall 1:16).

Day 2

Cons. Round 3 – Galton won in sudden victory – 1 over Michael Bromley (McDaniel College) (SV-1 3-1).

Cons. Semi – Galton 4-2 won in sudden victory – 1 over Joe Paul (Johns Hopkins University) (SV-1 7-5).

3rd Place Match – Zach Stedeford (Rochester Institute Of Technology) won by decision over Galton (Dec 6-2).

Sean Peterson

Day 1

Prelim – Peterson won by tech fall over Ricky Caamano (Muhlenberg College) (TF-1.5 7:00 (16-1)).

Champ. Round 1 – Peterson won by fall over Brandon Judge (University Of Scranton) (Fall 6:00).

Quarterfinal – Travis Jones (Ithaca College) won by tech fall over Peterson (TF-1.5 2:28 (16-0)).

Cons. Round 2 – Peterson 3-1 won by major decision over Jon Mejia (New Jersey City University) (MD 13-5).

Day 2

Cons. Round 3 – Ryan Burgbacher (Cortland) won by decision over Peterson (Dec 9-6).

7th Place Match – Chris Horton (Rochester Institute Of Technology) won by decision over Peterson (Dec 11-5).
