Three professors bring claims against top brass at SUNY school

By Andrew Harris, 11/17/21

Multiple news outlets have reported that the NYS Department of Human Rights is investigating discrimination claims from faculty members at Alfred State Collge. Three complaints, by three different members of the teaching staff assert that members of the administration have created a hostile workplace, rife with harassment and discrimination.

Professor Alex Bitterman has charged top officials at Alfred State College with sexual harassment, sexual assault, and age discrimination. Bitterman explained that the school Provost groped and harassed him at a private dinner party.

Married couple, Dr. Karla Back and Peter von Stackelberg, have made allegations of age discrimination and general workplace hostility. Both faculty members cite instances where the administration has created a, “war zone,” and made teaching at the college an unnecessary challenge for older professors.

All three whistleblowers are represented by Lindy Korn, a civil rights lawyer from Buffalo NY. An investigation has already been conducted by the Allegany County District Attorney who decided not to bring any criminal charges due to a lack of evidence.
