Potter County: Pennsylvania State Police Investigating Multiple Cases of Police Impersonation

ULYSSES TOWNSHIP, PA – On Monday, August 23, 2021, around 10:30PM, Pennsylvania State Police based in Coudersport investigated a report of an individual impersonating a public servant.

According to State Police, a 16-year-old female was traveling along Gazdag Road near the intersection of State Route 449 in Ulysses Township when she noticed a Maroon or red sedan with their four ways activated sitting along the roadway when she passed the car. The suspect in that car then activated the red and blue light bar on their vehicle and stopped the young driver (victim). The suspects then walked up the victim’s vehicle and the female driver realized they were not police officers and she fled.

The female driver described the two suspect as white males with black zip up hoodies with their hoods up over their heads. One of the suspects was described as an older male with a salt and pepper beard. The suspects then followed the victim for a short distance.

State Police noted that this was the second occurrence that their office was investigating regarding Impersonating a Public Servant. Both instances the suspects and the suspect’s vehicles are very similar.

Also Coudersport State Police are investigating a third reported case involving two unknown suspects impersonating police officers. The latest report received by State Police came in on Sunday morning, August 29, 2021.

THIRD CASE OF POLICE IMPERSONATION –

According to State Police, a 49-year-old female was followed by a white Mercury Grand Marquis with a black front push bar. This vehicle also had a long light bar on the inside of the front windshield that was blue and white colored. The suspect vehicle followed the victim along State Route 244 through Oswayo Road. When the woman turned onto the Pierce Hill Road, the suspect vehicle activated the blue and white light bar on their vehicle and stopped the victim. The suspects then walked up to the victim’s vehicle and the female victim realized they were not police officers and she fled.

The victim described the suspects as two males with sweatshirts/coats with the hoods up over their heads and wearing dark jeans. One suspect wore a khaki/tan sweatshirt/coat and the other suspect wore a brown colored sweatshirt/coat. The suspects then followed the victim for approximately6 miles with the lights activated until the suspect vehicle turned the lights off and turned onto 4 Mile Road In New York State.

State Police in Coudersport would like to inform the public of the following;

If you are being stopped and you are not sure that it is a police officer, please do the following:

– Activate your four ways.

– Call 911 and inform them that you are being stopped and inquire if it is actually a police officer.

– If you do not have service to call 911, drive to a well lit area and/or a public location where other people would be present.
