WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today,Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced a $560,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) to support the Allegany County Comprehensive Sewer Study Project. This crucial funding will enable Allegany County to address long-standing sewer infrastructure deficiencies.

“Improving our essential infrastructure enhances the quality of life for residents, ensures the economic vitality, and contributes to the long-term sustainability of our communities,” said Congressman Langworthy.“By investing in projects like the Allegany County Comprehensive Sewer Study, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also laying the foundation for future growth. This grant is a step forward in our efforts to build stronger, more resilient communities for generations to come.”

According to the ARC, large swaths of Allegany County are not served by sewer systems, and many of the existing systems are in disrepair, discouraging investment in the area from manufacturers and other large businesses. By studying the current conditions of the sewer system, Allegany County will be able to map and pinpoint capacity, needs, and current and future issues to create a plan for improvement.

In addition to the $560,000 grant from ARC, local sources will contribute $140,000, and state sources will provide $100,000, bringing the total project funding to $800,000. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment of local, state, and federal partners to improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth in Allegany County.

Congressman Nick Langworthy represents the 23rd Congressional District of New York, including Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties and parts of Erie County. Visit langworthy.house.gov.
