Community service, learning, and garden work on Main Street

Wellsville’s community garden, the Fassett Greenspace, had some great volunteers to help get the gardens ready to grow this year! Local Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors had a full afternoon with founder of the space, Cassandra Bull. The troop along with leaders Angie Dieter, April Mollo, and Sherry Blauvelt enjoyed a mix of learning, work, and play.
Ms. Bull lead the volunteers on a tour of the garden and all of her features like the working water fountain, outdoor musical instruments, compost system, Free Little Library, and the different gardens. This community garden has spaces dedicated to flowers, vegetables, fruits, and herbs !!

The work was dirty but fun under perfect weather conditions. Teams worked on clearing out weeds that had survived the winter, rotating the soil, and they added 1200 pounds of compost. That compost was very stinky but necessary to provide the plants and micro organisms nutrition for the growing season.
The Fassett Greenspace founder and still President of Art for Rural America who manages the garden, Cassandra Bull had this to say:
“The greenspace was built for days like this!! These ladies, and a few gentlemen, who came to help out got lots accomplished and were a joy to work with. We encourage all local youth groups to reach out and get involved as we built this for you!”
