After 125 years of providing private education in Wellsville, the red brick school called “ICS”, has really shined during the second major pandemic in school history.
While most area schools experienced prolonged closures or ‘hybridized’ scheduling, ICS has been able to maintain in-person learning. Smaller class sizes and the independence of a private institution have allowed ICS to be the envy of most Allegany County public schools.
The mission statement of the school is another point of distinction that families can not find within our local school system:
“Our mission is to foster the academic and moral development of creative minds developing a sense of understanding, compassion, empathy for others, and moral courage. We guide the development of the “whole child” and assist each student in reaching his/her full potential – intellectually, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. We cannot accomplish our mission alone; we rely on God’s help and seek the active involvement of parents, family and the community in our education of students.”
As a Catholic school, religious studies are part of the curriculum, but being Catholic or religiously affiliated is not required. ICS welcomes all families and students regardless of faith or ethnic background with open arms. Currently about 50% of the student body are not members of the ICS parish.
