Most everyone knows Kim Toot from Wellsville from her work as Director of the Allegany County Office for the Aging, and her community volunteerism. Megan Milan is Kim’s sister.  Megan will present the “Great Loop” on July 21st at Tuesdays with Grace.

According to Megan, her husband was a boat captain. They had planned to do the loop when they retired. They bought a 42 foot trawler in preparation.  Unfortunately, their plans did not work out. He passed away before they were able to start the trip.

Being an adventurer and wanting to fulfill their dream; Megan sold their boat and bought one that she could handle alone. Her friends taught her how to dock and maintain it.

Megan set sail with two 16-year old cats as her passengers. They loved sailing. Her husband’s sister and brother-in-law sailed in a boat ahead of her.  They had other friends aboard. Megan and her cats followed. What they thought would take two years to complete, took five years! She started in 2021 and completed the loop in 2026.

They took their time enjoying the beautiful places in the USA and Canada. They cruised in the summers, and on the last leg from Mississippi to Florida, they cruised from November to January.  Megan made friends along the way that she has remained in contact with today.

Family and friends joined Megan in various places, sharing this memorable experience with them. Life continued to happen all around them. There were marriages, babies, and sadly her mother passed away, as well as her favorite first mates, her cats.

Come to Grace United Church on Tuesday, July 21st for a light lunch served at 12:30 followed by Megan’s presentation.  Sail with her through the beautiful places that she has been and share the adventure.
