Angelo “Ang” Gentile, 98, Hornell

Angelo “Ang” Gentile, 98, of the Turnpike Road, passed away early Tuesday morning (June 16, 2026) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

Born in Hornell on Feb. 8, 1928, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Lucia Viola Gentile.

He attended Hornell High School and worked at the former SKF Industries in Hornell for 41 years.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. He was also a member of the Moose International and the American Legion in Arkport, NY

He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1952 and was honorably discharge in 1954.

He enjoyed his grandchildren, farming, meeting people, hunting and traveling especially to Florida during the winter months for 29 years.

On July 8, 1950 in Prattsburgh, NY he married Marguerite Schuck and together they celebrated nearly 76 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife Marguerite, he is survived by his son, Robert (Barbara) Gentile; his daughter, Patricia (Roger) Champagne; two grandchildren, Shauna Gentile and Adam (Katie) Gentile; three great-grandchildren, Lainey Marguerite Gentile, Mila Lee Gentile and Jack Angelo Gentile; two sisters-in-law, Rosemary Gentile and Betty Gentile; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Angelo was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Rose Gentile Secondo Mary Gentile Holt and two brother, James Gentile and Patsey Gentile

At his request there will be no calling hours. A private viewing will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. FRIDAY (June 19, 2026) at St. Ann’s Church, 35 Erie Avenue, Hornell where the family will receive friends from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. FRIDAY. Private committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

Memorial contributions in Angelo’s name may be made to St. Ann’s Church, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, NY 14843 or to the Arkport American Legion, P.O. Box 475, Arkport, NY 14807. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church.
