Willis Shutt is running for the position of Town of Wellsville Highway Superintendent on November 3 ballot

Shutt was appointed as Acting Town Highway Supervisor in early 2026, graduated from Wellsville in 1994, and also serves as the Municipal Airport Manager

From Will Shutt for Highway Superintendent,

When long time highway superintendent Brian Smith retired, I approached the town board about filling the position. After being the airport manager for the last 10 years,  they already knew my work ethic and ability to create a budget and how to stay within its boundaries. They knew my focus was getting things done.

That was seven months ago, since the board appointed me to finish Brian’s term. In that time, I believe we have a competent team with a wealth of knowledge of the job at hand.

As a 1994 Wellsville graduate and a lifelong resident of the town, I has seen many issues that needed to be addressed outside of the normal daily routines. Managing the airport means you were on the job 24hrs a day and 365 days a year. The highway department is very similar.

Maintaining roads and clearing ditches are two of the scheduled daily jobs but there are often emergency priorities: Ensuring roads are safe for school busses, and being on call when high winds and rains topple trees into the roads. Don’t forget flash flooding and roads washed out entirely, as happened this spring.

I’m accustomed to working in all conditions and whenever it is required. I have been ready for Adelphia, Otis, and LC Whitford jets flying in or out at 4am, getting the airport ready and safe. Now I’m asking for your vote on election day for the position of Highway Superintendent in the Town of Wellsville.
