With the coming of warmer weather, the library is ready to shake off the slower pace of winter and leap into spring! There are about 30 programs happening in April, including book clubs, teen and adult Dungeons & Dragons Clubs, and weekly story times. There are also some special programs that the library wants to highlight.

On April 10, from 5-7 p.m., there will be an artists’ reception for the soon-to-be-published children’s book about the library cat. The Adventures of David A. Meow, written by Shaw Carlton and illustrated by Natalie Burns, chronicles David’s fantastical adventures around the world. The show will feature art and quotes from the book and will be available to view in the Howe Gallery during library open hours starting April 3.

A week later, on April 17, starting at 7 p.m., Alison and Hilary, a.k.a. The Young Sisters, will perform in the Nancy Howe Auditorium. This duo regularly provides a soundtrack for library events, so community members may be familiar with their casual style and fun covers of nostalgic tunes from the 90s and early 2000s.

The very next day – Saturday, April 18, from 4-6 p.m. – Miss Ashleigh is hosting the annual Pirate Party. This special, after-hours event is for elementary age children. There will be booty for each child who attends, fun activities, and a sword play demonstration. Call the library to register your children.

To celebrate National Poetry Month, Niki Gordon will host the library’s 4th Annual Poetry Slam on April 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the Monday Club Room. Anyone is welcome to join in, whether by registering to read a poem they have written or by lending support as an audience member.

Bookending April is a second artists’ reception, on April 25, from 1-3 p.m., in the Youth Wing. For the past year, Natalie Burns, Shaw Carlton, and Aubree Niles have been working on a mural in the Youth Wing and the library is throwing a party to celebrate its completion. Burns and Carlton created a mural together in the hallway that showcases imagery from The Adventures of David A. Meow, as well as local flora and fauna. Niles larger-than-life colorful style brings much needed life to the children’s stacks stairwell. Come by for refreshments, crafts, and a tour of the art.

All of these events are free and open to the public thanks to the generous support of the local community.
