“Seed money” and helping hands needed
From Art For Rural America Volunteers,
Since 2019, at the exact location where village founders gathered in 1850, a community garden has thrived on Main Street Wellsville NY.
Non-profit “Art for Rural America,” is the steward of the lot which has a labyrinth style series of raised garden and flower beds, a working bronze water fountain centerpiece, outdoor musical instruments, and a Little Free Library. The Fassett Greenspace is open to the public, all the herbs, vegetables, and fruit are free to harvest. The flowers are for display and pollinators only, please do not pick. This urban oasis is open 24/7/365 from dawn til dusk, please no smoking or alcohol.

The Fassett Greenspace was built with the support of grant funding from major benevolent groups like the Ralph Wilson Jr. Foundation, the Garman Family Foundation, the Glanzman Family, many volunteers, and community partners. Alfred State College, LC Whitford Corporation, LaForge Excavation, Giant Food Mart, Alco Federal Credit Union, Community Bank NA, and many other small businesses have helped this project a reality. Read more about our benefactors here.
Maintaining a space that Wellsville can be proud of is much like the plants within the garden… food, water, and a little support are needed.
To be straightforward, since the Fassett Greenspace was built we haven’t focused on fundraising and are asking the community to chip in. While money is the easiest way to support our work, some other options are listed below.
You can make two different kinds of donations – 2026 Sustaining Supporter or One-time support. Visit our secure and easy to use Donation Main Page
Checks maybe mailed to Art For Rural America, c/o Jeanne Harris, 3 Meadowbrook Court. Wellsville NY, 14895.
Memorial donations are also now possible, please contact us via email if interested, ArtForRuralAmerica@gmail.com
All donations are tax-deductible, we are a 501c3 corporation.
