The Wellsville Lady Lions varsity girls basketball team delivered a dominant performance Saturday evening, overwhelming the Naples Big Green 94–15 at home.
Wellsville set the tone early, racing out to a 24–6 first-quarter lead and extending the margin to 45–10 at halftime. The Lady Lions continued to apply pressure after the break, pouring in 49 points in the third quarter to put the game well out of reach before a scoreless fourth.
Caelyn Stevens(#3) led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, adding 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in an all-around standout effort.
Coach Drew Toney noted, ” I’ve been telling Caelyn the last couple of games that she’s due for a big game. Obviously scoring 30 is great but she also lead us in assists and Steals. We’ve had a couple of tough stretches already this season so getting a game like this to get some momentum was nice.”
Jaeden Dunbar(#25) chipped in 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Reagan Vogel(#23) added 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Wellsville’s balanced attack saw 10 different players score, with strong contributions across the lineup:
- Arenas Rodriguez (#20): 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals
- Lydia Kaye(#22): 8 points, 8 rebounds
- Reegan Perkins (#11): 7 points, 6 rebounds
- Addy Hennessy (#12): 6 points, 4 assists
- Emily Stuck (#15): 6 points, 3 assists
- Hailey Cowburn(#4): 5 Points, 3 assists
- Alexa Hennessy(#14): 4 points, 4 rebounds
The Lady Lions shot efficiently from the field, finishing 39-of-76 overall and 14-of-29 from three-point range, while controlling the glass with a 40–12 rebounding advantage. Defensively, Wellsville forced 30 Naples turnovers, converting defense into offense throughout the night.
Naples was led by a team total of 15 points, with the Big Green struggling to find offensive rhythm against Wellsville’s pressure defense.
The win underscores Wellsville’s depth, defensive intensity, and scoring ability as the Lady Lions continue their season with confidence. Go Lions!!
