Governor Kathy Hochul
Gov. Hochul took a moment Tuesday to praise heath care workers who have spent the past two years saving COVID victims. She noted that right now the state has over 110 federally provided ambulance units. Hochul said we’re going to continue leading the fight. “We have the tools, we’re going to keep things open, as we always have.”
Public Safety in Allegany County
Felony cases in Allegany have dipped slightly from December into January according to DA Keith Slep. Felony cases last month were 15, down from 24, However misdemeanor cases rose to 45.
The Allegany County jail generated about $68,000 in revenue for housing federal prisoners in January. The average daily population was 63 inmates, with 41 local inmates. Meanwhile, the Civil Division pulled in $40,000 after executing 70 civil processes. The report is from Sheriff Rick Whitney.
The Allegany County 911 Center handled 742 ambulance calls, 231 fire alarms and more than 2,000 calls for police services. Medical Transport handled the most calls at 222 and Cuba fire responded to 30 calls for service. As for law enforcement, Troopers led the way, followed by the sheriff’s office and then Wellsville police with 174 calls.
Gilbert Green
While he does not receive much attention, Gilbert Green is the Director of the county weights and measures. Last month he reviewed the new gas pumps at the Crosby station in Scio and reached out to the new owners of Giant Food Mart in Wellsville, and also checked on a pump removal at Harringtons. It was a routine month for Gilbert Green.
Corning Inc
Corning Incorporated’s (NYSE: GLW) Board of Directors today declared a quarterly dividend of $0.27 per share, a 12.5% increase versus the company’s previous quarterly common stock dividend of $0.24. The dividend will be payable on March 30, 2022, to shareholders of record on Feb. 28, 2022.
Welfare Fraud
A Canaseraga woman faces multiple felony counts following her arrest by Amity-based troopers. Police arrested Jessica A. Headley-Murray, age 37. The counts include third-degree welfare fraud, a class D felony and well as first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, a class E felony. The charges stem from a complaint filed in the village of Belmont on Nov. 10, 2021. Court action is pending.
Congressman Tom Reed
The Southern Tier has taken a hit recently with the loss of Dresser-Rand on Road Street and the impending loss of Siemens in Olean. Congressman Reed (Reed101) Reed made the comments only to us during a media call Wednesday.
Congressman Tom Reed won’t be seeking another term, mostly impart to his admission that he has a substance abuse problem. During a direct question from The Wellsville Sun, Reed responded (Reed 201). He says he is looking forward to the next chapter of his life.
