PLAN YOUR SUMMER PROGRAMS & EVENTS AT THE FASSETT GREENSPACE

As spring begins and the COVID-19 pandemic still presents a looming risk, many residents, nonprofit organizations, and community groups may be looking for outdoor spaces to meet. Located at 55 North Main Street in Wellsville, the newly established garden called The Fassett GreenSpace is a perfect location to utilize as a free public venue in 2021.

The GreenSpace is accessible for individuals of all abilities and is centrally located in the village along a bus route. It is open from dawn to dusk and has public access to electricity and water as well as built-in bench seating. Other features of the garden include outdoor musical instruments, a little free library, and a centerpiece bronze fountain. The 1,500+ square feet of growing space are maintained by volunteers and are free for the community to harvest or use as a teaching garden. Previous programs held there include children’s activities such as story-time, crafts, and dance. Other groups have used the space to teach nutrition and art classes and meet for book clubs, luncheons, and board meetings.

In the next few months, the group that maintains the GreenSpace, Art for Rural America, has plans to finish their “ShadeSpace Pavilion.” This structure will create a covered area in the back of the garden with additional seating for 75 individuals. The pavilion is designed for performance and lecture spaces.

The public space is free to use for any group or individual that is looking for a relaxing, beautiful, and unique outdoor venue. The Board of Art for Rural America asks that groups of five or more individuals email them ahead of time about an event. This way, the nonprofit can better assess their impact and make sure there are no scheduling conflicts. The nonprofit is available to help cross-promote any open public event at the garden.

Please contact Board President, Cassandra Bull, for more information or to host a program. She can be reached via email at ArtforRuralAmerica@gmail.com. Please like the Fassett GreenSpace on Facebook or visit their website ArtforRuralAmerica.org for more information.
