The Town of Wellsville is focused on its future and how to create exciting economic opportunities especially for young people to stay in Wellsville.

Wellsville is known for its warmth and family friendly charm. The Town’s Economic Study seeks to accentuate its rural character by promoting and improving existing assets and partnerships for the benefit of the entire community.

As many young people leave Wellsville searching for opportunities, the Town seeks to address this challenge by designing a proactive, forward thinking Economic Development study that will create opportunities for residents, businesses and especially young people.

“The Town is focused on cultivating a new growth and investment strategy this year,” commented Shad Alsworth, Town of Wellsville Supervisor.  “This Study will examine how  Town leadership can proactively court new industrial investment back to Wellsville. By cross-pollinating our many unique assets this initiative will promote Wellsville’s existing and unique opportunities focused on retaining the community’s charming, friendly character.”

The Wellsville Economic Study, is targeted to benefit the entire community by leveraging Wellsville’s existing assets and opportunities encouraging new industry investment focused on job creation, new development and park improvements.

The Town of Wellsville assets include Alfred State College’s Wellsville campus, the Genesse River, a freight railroad, easy access to I-86, the Wellsville Municipal Airport, a trained workforce, available industrial sites and numerous Allegany and New York State economic incentives.

Surrounded by Alfred University, Houghton University and Alfred State College SUNY, Wellsville is positioned to court new industries aligned with these institutions providing a highly specialized pipeline with a young talented workforce.

The Village of Wellsville, centered within the Town of Wellsville is experiencing a vibrant revitalization itself fueled by $4,500,000 in NY Forward Grant Funding. With a variety of restaurants, places to shop, and the historic David A. Howe Public Library, the Village acts as an attractive anchor for the area being the largest community in Allegany County. More than a dozen new businesses have opened on its Nationally Registered Historic downtown Main Street within the last year.

The Town of Wellsville hired Barth Consulting Group, a Wellsville based economic development & revitalization consulting firm to conduct this study and provide the Town with a final blueprint and opportunity road map with immediate, proactive actions steps.  “The Town of Wellsville has so many extraordinary attributes that collectively position the community to thrive and prosper,” remarked Stephen Barth, president of Barth Consulting Group. “We are honored to assist the Town of Wellsville and provide a broad, high altitude perspective with an actionable pathway to cultivate a vibrant future.”
