Rumfelt, the former Andover Chief of Police, was elected in 2021
By Andrew Harris
Speculations about a pending resignation from Rumfelt were confirmed today with this statement:
“Effective October 31, I, James Rumfelt, resign from the Allegany County Legislature as a District 4 representative. It has been my honor to serve the people of Wellsville, Ward, and Andover in the Allegany County Legislature since 2021. I wish the current legislature and the good people working for a better Allegany County the very best.”
Rumfelt was elected in 2020 with the largest number of votes in both primary and general District 4 contests. During his tenure he served as the chair of the Personnel Committee and served on the Human Services and Public Safety Committees.
He resigns his seat just two months before the end of his term with election day on November 4. In Allegany County District 4, longtime Legislators Steven Havey and Gary Barnes are on the uncontested ballot along with former legislator and Vice-Chairman Kevin LaForge.
