Another Ridgewalk is in the books and it was one of the best. After 33 years, the organizers and volunteers have built great event which draws a consistent crowd of hard-core runners and happy-go-lucky walkers. The only element that the team behind the Ridgewalk can’t control is the weather and this year it was perfect. Standing on the finish line to watch the runners in my family it was 70 degrees, a nice breeze, and mostly sunny.

The main event, the 25K draws competitive runners from all over the state and country, even international participants come to Alma NY. The run includes a grueling 3000 foot increase in elevation and lots of extreme trail conditions. Joseph Whelan was the first to cross the finish line, two minutes ahead of Tim Chichester of Hornell NY. The women’s race was lead by Lindsay Piraino of Rush NY and Jenny Keenan of Buffalo NY was within a minute off the pace.

Cooper Buckley of Olean NY ran the 10K in just under fifty minutes to earn the top spot! Dansville’s Ruth Goins blazed the trails to take the #1 spot in the women’s run.

The 5k run was led by Franklin Lewis from just a few ridges over in Rexville NY and Jennifer Lloyd of Port Allegany was the first to finish in the women’s division.
