New York State Police: All three NYDOT workers expected to survive

On June 11, 2025, at approximately 11:13 a.m., the New York State Police, along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on State Route 36 southbound at County Route 70A in the town of Hornellsville, Steuben County.

A preliminary investigation determined that a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, operated by a 30 year old female, of Arkport, NY, was traveling southbound on State Route 36 when it struck three New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) workers in an active work zone. The vehicle then collided with a DOT vehicle stationed at the site.

Two of the workers, ages 52 and 60, were transported by ambulance to St. James Hospital in Hornell. The third, age 30, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. All three are expected to survive.

New York State Police members of the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) responded to assist in the investigation.

State Route 36 southbound remains closed at this time with a detour in place.

The investigation is ongoing.
