Following its Winter Break, The Monday Club recently resumed its meetings with an opening luncheon on April 1.  Monday the 14th, featured speaker, Liz Tiporas,  discussed how childhood experiences have lifetime impacts.  She gave members a sample ACE (Adverse Childhood Experience) Score test.

Listed events included experiencing verbal or physical abuse, divorce, an adult who was alcoholic, or mentally ill, imprisoned, or unable to provide proper food or clothing. Experiencing as few as  four of the events  can lead to serious illness in later life, even passing on stress through DNA.  The higher the ACE score, or more stress, leads to fight, flight or freeze behaviors.

Counseling can build resiliency,  trusting relationships, positive attitudes,  lessening toxic stress in muscles. Helpful activities include journaling, practicing mindfulness,  being active and exercising, finding humor, love of learning, creativity, and faith.

The Resiliency Attitude states:  “What is right with you is more powerful than anything wrong with you.”

Next week, the ladies will meet at the Wellsville Post Office for a tour under the guidance of Post Master Ian Thompson, and Supervisor Samantha Phillips.
