Unaffiliated voters, first-time registrants, or those wanting to switch parties must update their status by Friday, Feb. 14
From Karen Ash, ACDC
To Voters in Allegany County:
Do you want to influence local decisions about your property taxes, roads, law enforcement, or community development? You can do so by taking a simple step by this Friday, Feb. 14.
New Yorkers won’t vote for president this year, but 2025’s local elections—for county legislature, town boards, judges, and other critical positions—will shape daily life in our towns and villages for years to come.
The general election is in November, but a strong likelihood exists that there will be primary elections in June. A primary is a preliminary election in which voters within a party directly choose their party’s candidate for a specific office. Winners of primaries then go on to challenge other parties’ candidates in the general election.
To participate in June’s primaries, a party affiliation must be listed on your voter registration. Unaffiliated voters, first-time registrants, or those wanting to switch parties must update their status by Friday, Feb. 14.
You can check your current enrollment with the County Board of Elections at 8 Willets Ave., Belmont (585-268-9295). Mail-in registration forms must arrive by Feb. 14, and in-person submissions close at 5:00 p.m. that day. Or visit the state’s online voter registration portal at https://nyovr.elections.ny.gov/
Registering with a party and voting in primaries ensures your values guide decisions on local priorities. Whether you are aligning with a party for the first time or switching to one that better reflects your ideals, February 14 is your deadline to make your voice count where it matters most: right here.
Don’t let your community’s future be decided without you.
