$1.365 Million to Improve Housing and Remove Blight in Local Communities
From the Allegany County Office of Planning,
Allegany County, NY – The Allegany County Land Bank Corporation (ACLBC) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $1,365,000 grant from New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) to enhance the local housing stock, eliminate blight through strategic demolitions, and partner with local organizations to create attainable housing for residents. This grant marks the third and largest award received by ACLBC from New York State through the Land Bank Initiative Program.
This substantial award follows two earlier grants that supported the stabilization of homes for rehabilitation and the demolition of dilapidated properties that contributed to blight in the region. With this new funding, nearly three times the amount of their largest award, ACLBC is positioned to expand its efforts to include additional new home development, strategic demolitions and rehabilitation projects in partnership with key local organizations. The award will help ensure that Allegany County residents have access to safe, attainable housing while improving the overall quality of life in the community.
“We are incredibly grateful for this significant investment from New York State Homes and Community Renewal,” said Jason Isaman, Executive Director of the Allegany County Land Bank. “This award allows us to make even greater strides in eliminating blight, stabilizing neighborhoods, and creating long-term housing solutions in collaboration with our local partners. The impact of this funding will be felt throughout Allegany County for years to come.”
The Land Bank Initiative Program funding will be utilized to:
- Remove blight through strategic demolitions, targeting unsafe and abandoned buildings that negatively affect the community.
- Support local housing partners, including Friendship Revitalization and Economic Development, Andover Historic Preservation Corp, and Genesee Valley Habitat for Humanity, to rehabilitate and redevelop properties for affordable, attainable housing.
- Strengthen local housing stock, making homes more stable, accessible, and sustainable for families across Allegany County.
HCR Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas said, “HCR is thrilled to support the Allegany County Land Bank Corporation’s efforts to enhance communities through the reduction of blight and revitalization of housing stock. Today’s $1.3 million grant builds on two prior HCR Land Bank Initiative awards and will allow additional rehabilitation projects that improve neighborhoods for Allegany County residents. Thank you to the Allegany County Land Bank Corporation for their partnership and to Governor Hochul for her commitment to investing in communities, increasing housing supply, and improving affordability for New Yorkers.”
The ACLBC’s collaborative efforts with local organizations ensure that resources are directed toward projects that address specific community needs while maximizing the long-term impact of the funding. These partnerships play a critical role in the successful transformation of blighted properties into vibrant, livable spaces for current and future residents.
This new award will allow ACLBC to continue making a measurable difference in the revitalization of Allegany County, helping to transform neighborhoods and provide safe, affordable homes to those who need them most.
