While local whitetail deer expert Oak Duke hasn’t issued is annual “rut prediction,” the local whitetail deer are running wild.

Last week, a deer crashed into a Main Street Wellsville window front, leaving smashed glass on the buinesss district sidewalk. Building owner Marshall Green reported that early last Monday morning a whitetail smashed through the front window of 94 North Main Street. It seems the a male deer smashed into the window, ran into the first floor area, and then ran away.

“Apparently, it ran away… Some blood drops on my floor. Very minor damage to the floor and the window needs to be replaced,” reported Green.

The building was immediately boarded up and the glass cleaned up. Wellsville Police investigated the attack to be sure it was not politically motivated. At the time of the buck attack, Green was a candidate for village mayor.

Today wild whitetail tried to pick a fight with the glass doors at the Elementary School. Luckily the deer did not break the glass and ran away unharmed. The school issued this notice to all parents confirming all was well.

From Wellsville Elementary School,

This morning at the Elementary Building we had a deer run into the glass doors by the pool entrance just before student arrival.  The deer was able to get up and run away.  No glass was broken.  No students or adults were involved.  As the deer was running back across the parking lot, some students were arriving to school and saw the deer from a distance.  Multiple administrators, teachers, and maintenance staff ensured the safety of the students as the deer was crossing the parking lot and leaving campus.

Our investigation of these incidents asked the obvious question: Was it the same deer or do we have two maniacs running around the village?

Without confirmation it is advised that all area residents be wary of wild deer acting aggressive in our “urban” areas. Breeding season is known for irrational and wild behavior from whitetail deer. The bucks are fight for territory and chasing female deer with very little concern for anything but that beautiful doe.

Got glass coverage?
