Opening reception for Kettinger and Babbitt is tonight, September 27 at 6pm
From staff reports,
Local artists Elsa Kettinger and Jeff Babbitt will showcase their work at Cōppa Cō., a coffee shop, ceramics studio, and art gallery in Houghton, NY. The exhibit, featuring oil paintings by Babbitt and monoprints by Kettinger, will be on display through the end of October. An opening reception will take place on Friday, September 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with free finger foods and appetizers available. Drinks can be purchased during the event.

Babbitt, a lifelong resident of Western New York, blends his love of gardening and painting in his current series, which includes plein air pieces created in his own garden. His work also highlights other local spots, such as Fillmore’s 4-B’s Farm and his childhood home in Canisteo. The paintings in this exhibit reflect his fascination with light and color as captured in the natural environment around him.
Elsa Kettinger, an artist from Houghton, brings her monoprinting technique to the exhibit, creating vibrant prints using leaves and flowers. This method, involving the use of a gelli plate, allows for experimental and organic results. Inspired by the changing landscapes of late summer, Kettinger’s work captures the fleeting beauty of nature, with each print serving as a snapshot of flora before it fades.

Cōppa Cō. is located at 9729 Route 19 in Houghton. They are open Tuesday and Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00, and Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
