Richburg based contractor arrested by State Police for defrauding, larceny, and more

On April 6, 2022, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Jesse E.T. Smyers, 31 of Richburg, NY for Scheming to Defraud 1st degree (E Felony), Grand Larceny 3rd degree, Issuing a Bad Check and Fugitive from Justice out of Pennsylvania for bad checks.

On January 24, 2022, Troopers out of SP Amity started investigating a fraud case involving Smyers Contracting.  The investigation was turned over to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).  Further investigation revealed that Smyers ran his own contracting company for approximately 2 years between 2020 to present and is known to have taken jobs in Allegany County, Cattaraugus County and Northern Pennsylvania. 

Smyers collected over $200,000.00 in both money and supplies for jobs that he allegedly either never completed or completed so poorly that they had to be torn down and re-done by a separate contractor.  Smyers has also issued numerous bad checks that had insufficient funds to lumber companies and other business’ while operating his contracting company.  Smyers was arrested and processed at SP Amity.  Smyers was arraigned at the town of Friendship Court and ROR’d and is due to return to the town of Friendship Court in June 2022.
