11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the library front lawn!

From the David A. Howe Library,

There will be a variety of fun activities and raffles for all ages. Lawn games, including giant chess or checkers and Jenga sets, will be set up for anyone to enjoy. ME & My Boys Soap will be bringing some of their goats to the library and the Elm Valley Harvesters 4H Club will add guinea pigs, rabbits, and chickens to the “petting zoo.” The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum will be on hand giving lumberjack training (yes, the audience gets to participate) and the Young Sisters will perform live. Of course, there will also be treats – cookies, lemonade, and popsicles!

An especially exciting part of this kickoff event is that patrons will be able to register for the Summer Reading Program (SRP). You may think that summer reading is just for kids but, at DAHPL, we have summer reading programs for patrons of all ages.

This year’s SRP theme is Adventure Begins at Your Library! Registration begins at the kickoff event and the program runs for six weeks, from June 24 through August 2. Each week of SRP, there are opportunities to participate in activities and events at the library. Kids and teens can earn weekly rewards for reporting how many books they read (or had read to them, if they are not reading on their own yet) and checking out more. Adults can earn entries into weekly prize drawings, as well as the grand prize drawing for a gift package worth over $150, by reading, attending events and programs at the library, and answering weekly trivia questions.

The kickoff event and the Summer Reading Program are both free and open to all community members.
