James R. Gilliland, 86, formerly of Belmont/Olean

     After a hard fought battle against cancer with multiple treatment complications, James Ronald Gilliland passed away peacefully at the Bailey Hospice Center in Saint Augustine, Florida, on January 12th, 2024. Born on December 11, 1937, in Kane, Pennsylvania, James was 86 years old.

     As a young man, Jim was a standout student-athlete at Belmont Central School, playing baseball, basketball, and soccer. He attended Saint Bonaventure University. He began his career at Hysol Corporation, living and working in Olean, New York. As a chemist at Hysol, Jim was awarded a patent for electro-conductive adhesives. Moving into sales, Jim advanced to the position of North American Sales Manager at Dexter Electronic Materials. Along the way, he held similar positions at Amicon/Grace and Indium Corporation.

     Jim was a voracious reader, an avid sports fan, and a lover of classic movies. In his retirement, he loved to play tennis and spend time at the beach.

     James is survived by his ex-wife, Susan (Snyder) Gilliland; his three sons, Steve (Linda) Gilliland, Eric Gilliland, and Jason (Amy) Gilliland; six grandchildren, Adam (Elizabeth) Gilliland, Liam (Lyndsay) Gilliland, Logan Gilliland, Andrew Gilliland, Jacob Gilliland, and Amanda Gilliland; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Aiden Gilliland.
