Wreaths Across America is a national event to honor and remember our veterans
From the Whitesville Rural Cemetary, pictured is the 2022 ceremony lead by local veteran Josh Mullen
There will be a ceremony at the Whitesville Rural Cemetery beginning at noon sharp, which will include the Morrison Hayes American Legion Post #702 Honor Guard, complete with rifle squad.
The wreath laying will begin immediately after the ceremony. Everyone is encouraged to participate.
As each wreath is laid, please take a minute to thank, and say the veteran’s name out loud. It is said, that as long as someone says your name, you are not forgotten. Each and every veteran deserves to be remembered.
Wreaths will be laid at not only the Whitesville Rural Cemetery, but also on each veteran’s grave in the Township of Independence. This includes, the Independence, Spring Mills, Fulmer Valley, Hillside, Pioneer, Kenyon Farm, and the Stateline/Briggs cemetery, as well as the town cemetery. A ceremony will only be held at the town cemetery.
If you have ancestors or loved ones in any of these cemeteries, I encourage you to bring your children and grandchildren, and to pass their stories down to them as you visit their graves. Don’t let their stories be forgotten.
