Alfred State “Jack and Jill” team wins at Paul Smith’s College in the Adirondacks

Pioneers dominate Fall Woodsmen Competition

From Alfred State College,

       ALFRED, NY, October 26, 2023 – The Alfred State College’s Jack and Jill team took home first place in the Paul Smith’s College Fall Woodsmen Competition. The team scored 1,130.5 points over the fourteen events.

ASC’s Jack and Jill team of Cole Bingham (Conesus, NY), Faith Blake (Bath, NY), Kendra Hammond (Otego, NY), Haley Michaud (East Hardwick, VT), Jack Niefergold (Springville, NY), Doug Taylor (Boston, NY), Julia Wilkins (Nunda, NY), and Gunner Schwabenbauer (Olean, NY) won the super swede, the pulp toss, and quarter split competitions. They won the overall competition by over 43 points.

The men’s team Brandon Aschauer (Schuylerville, NY), Jacob Cassidy (Putnam Valley, NY), Nedelcho Neumann (Naples, NY), Jacob Perry (Parishville, NY), Jesse Riling (Franklinville, NY), Owen Smolinski (Buffalo, NY), Finnian Turner (Genoa, NY) also had a strong showing as they finished third with 929 points. The team scored 100 points in the axe throw and 99.7 in the stock saw.

Head Coach Scott Bingham was impressed with his team’s performance. “We have a very young team. All the members of the Jack and Jill team are brand new while three of the men’s team members are new this semester as well. I am proud of their dedication, and I am excited to see their continued growth.”

Alfred State competed versus Paul Smith’s, SUNY ESF, SUNY Cobleskill, the University of Connecticut, Finger Lakes CC, Morrisville State College, and the University of Vermont.
