The Allegany County Board of Legislators recently recognized Kathleen “Kathy” Kent of Andover for her many contributions to her community.

Kathy is best known for her role as Vice-President and Manager of Kent Farms in Andover, a position she has held since 1971. In that capacity, she has facilitated the employment of hundreds of local teenagers and adults. Further dedication to her community has been demonstrated by the countless wreaths and Christmas trees that she has donated to local families, charities, and other non-profits.

Since 1984, Kent has served as a firefighter with the Andover Fire Department and as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with the Andover Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She currently serves on that organization’s Board of Directors and has continuously donated both time and materials towards the landscape beautification of the Ambulance Corps grounds.

She is a previous Grand Marshal of the Andover Fourth of July Parade, is a long-time member of the Andover Blessed Sacrament Church, and recipient of Andover’s Stanley Ormsby Citizenship Award.

A resident of Andover since 1953, Kathy married Thomas Kent in 1971. The pair have raised their sons, Edward and Joseph, to be loving family members and successful local businessmen.

In addressing the assembled supporters, Kent remarked, “I’m really honored. You know, I’m just a farmer. I grew up in Andover and stayed there. I’ve seen hard times and good times on that farm, and when times were really tough, it was the next generation (sons Joe and Ed) that really brought new ideas (Tall Pines ATV Park and Kent Beer Company).”

“We’re still here, and we work together,” she continued. “I’m really blessed, and I’m glad I’m here in Allegany County.”
