The little town with a big heart and centuries of history is ready to sing happy birthday, Scio NY is turning 200 years old.

In 1823, settlers found Scio, situated on the Genesee River, and at the southern end of the great Genesee Valley, a great place to put down roots. Two hundred years later, the town of about 1700 residents will hold two days of commemorating that history.

The Wellsville Sun will keep you posted on the party planned for August 12-13 but the committee wants all potential vendors, parade participants, and yard sale houses to register for the event. Here are the three respective forms necessary and all are available online at Scio200years.com:

Bicentennial Festival Schedule:

THURSDAY AUG 10, 5-7:30 —     Cruise and Cream @ Scio Methodist Church

Opening Ceremony

FRIDAY Aug 11         @ School and Firehall

9am – 5pm      Community Yard Sales (Town wide)

 Food and Craft Vendors on School Lawn and at Firehall                            

10am – 8pm    Historical memorabilia @ Library

5pm – 7pm     Cornhole Tournament @ School grounds; other games

Pre-Register with Irving Newton through 8/10

Dunk tank

Lions Club serving Italian Sausage/Hot Dogs

6pm– 7pm       Recognize the longest married couple and eldest in town

6pm – 9pm     Outdoor Music @ Firehall (DJ Dan)

Dusk Lions Club to Host outdoor Movie (popcorn and snacks will be for sale)

SATURDAY AUG 12  @ School and Firehall

9am – 4pm     Community Yard Sales

                        Vendors on grounds

10am – 8pm   History @ Library

11am – 4pm   Games @ School grounds

      11am                Community Church Service at the Pavilion

      Noon               Community Picnic @ Pavilion (Bring a dish to pass)

                              Rushford Concert Band will be playing
