Family and friends gathered on Memorial Day to say thank you

By Andrew Harris, photos provided

The Rigby family has been one of the pillars of Scio and Allegany County for decades. The community came together with thanks and praise last weekend in Scio as part of Memorial Day observances.

Phylis and the late Roger Rigby were presented with a plaque commemorating the event by town officials during a ceremony.

Brenda Rigby Riehle, the Clerk of the Allegany County Board of Legislature, is the daughter of Phylis and Roger. As you can tell by the pictures, Brenda beams with pride and love for her parents and had this to say about the honor:

“Congratulations to my Mom for being honored as Scio’s Citizen of the year along with my Dad, posthumously, at the Scio Memorial Day parade yesterday. We were all very touched by the honor and greatly appreciate all the work and effort that goes into something like this. Congratulations to Bruce Chandler for being selected as the Veteran of the Year, and thank you for your service!”
