Balloon pilot was a Letchworth State Park institution

By John Kucko,

Fly Peacefully, Captain: Saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, Captain Sean Quigley. The longtime Town Justice of Genesee Falls, he was the driving force of Balloons Over Letchworth for many years. Loving family man with an impeccable reputation, he oversaw the annual Red, White and Blue Balloon Festival at our beloved Letchworth State Park. During my later years of sports anchoring, Captain Quigley would take me up in his balloon and provide some of the most amazing views of the Genesee Valley one could ever imagine. The experiences were pivotal in my decision to leave sports to pursue a digital pathway. Captain Q would tell his passengers they had “the best seat in the house” as they launched in his balloon basket and crossed over the majestic Genesee Gorge. Today, and for eternity, it is Captain Sean Quigley who has the best seat—so deserving of a principled man who lived life to its fullest. My sympathies go out to his loving family. Godspeed, Captain Q!
