Wellsville’s Tiernee Brandes signs with Hobart William Smith College

Former “AquaJag” and champion “Sea Lion” will major in Aquatic Sciences

Tiernee Brandes has signed to swim for Hobart William Smith College in Geneva,NY in the fall of 2023. She will be William Smith Herons’ backstroker. She will be majoring in Biology (marine) with a minor in Aquatic Sciences. 

Tiernee started competitively swimming when she was eight years old. She started swimming for Genesee Valley Team (Aquajags) since she was 8 years old in the winter time.  (9 years- total she swam for the club) In the summertime she swam for  Kanakadea Valley Swim Club (KVAC) for 5 years.  She started out on the Varsity Wellsville Sea Lions Swimming & Diving from 7th grade (6 years).

She won Rookie of the Year in 7th grade. MVP award in 11th grade.  Tiernee was part of the 200 Medley Relay (backstroke) Team that kept breaking their pool record for three consecutive years.   (2020, 2021 & 2022). Tiernee was 2021 LCAA Champion in the 200 freestyle. 2021 LCAA Champion in the 100 backstroke, 2021 LCAA Champion (team) 200 Medley Relay (backstroke), and 2021 LCAA Champion in the 200 Freestyle Relay.  She was the only swimmer in the LCAA county to take first in all four of her events. The Wellsville Sea Lions walked away with overall team Champions for the LCAA 2021 and 2022 Championships.

Tiernee was an LCAA Allstar for 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022. Tiernee has made sectional cuts every year since 7th grade. Tiernee was on the 200 Medley Relay team that took the Sectional Title  for 2020, 2021 and 2022. In her (2021) junior year, she won her individual Section V Class C sectional title for 100 backstroke. The Wellsville Sea Lions team swept away the 2020, 2021, and 2022 Section V Class C titles!
