Taking stock of Wellsville’s economic rebound

Here are some of the recent headlines full of good news

Wellsville has much to be naturally thankful for: A strong community, rolling hills, a mild climate, vast resources, and of course the Genesee River “runs through it.” These things can’t be taken for granted when surveying the nation. Strong communities are hard to come by and the “Western New York Wilds,” are both picture perfect and insulated from the natural disasters that impact much of the nation. From clean water and air, to productive farmland and the mighty “Genny,” Wellsville checks so many boxes for quality of life.

Those intrinsic assets have created several economic “boom” cycles since the Wellsville area was settled, and before. The entire Genesee River Valley was extremely valueable to the native tribe.

That value still exists and today, is still driving the Wellsville economy. Over the last eighteen months, all signs point to a new economic boom era for Wellsville, here are some of those top headlines(tap each to read full story):

The news is just arriving that have many in a state of joyful shock. After months of waiting and wondering, New York State’s “NY Forward” grant has been awarded to the village of Wellsville for downtown revitalization.

This is a big surprise for Wellsville, Mayor Randy Shayler, said “we are stunned. This is a huge amount of money, maybe double what we could have ever hoped for.”

Hundreds of new jobs expected in Wellsville

As the sun broke the morning fog in Wellsville, New York State Lt. Gov. Brian Benjamin announced a project that will bring hundreds of jobs to Wellsville with a reportedly $200 million investment.

Runnings to bring 40 jobs to Wellsville with store in former Kmart building

Retailer opens 58th store in Wellsville

Runnings, which has a slogan, “Your Home, Farm and Outdoor Store” is based in Marshall, Minn. The new Wellsville store at the Riverwalk Shopping Plaza will be their 11th in New York state.

Runnings officials said they hope to bring 40 jobs to the Wellsville store. On their website (runnings.com) and their Facebook and Instagram pages, there are photos and deals on clothes and other accessories sold at the store.

Town of Wellsville: Tim Horton’s coming to Bolivar Road

Popular coffee shop chain investing in Wellsville

Roxane Schmidt asked for some good news for Wellsville today. Town officials will meet tonight and will be discussing this latest development on the Bolivar Road. Plans have already been released for a “drive-thru” Walgreens pharmacy and a Quicklee’s convenience store. Today, the news of a brand new Tim Horton’s arrived.

A ‘Giant’ smile for employees, customers as new owners reveal plans for stores

Erie county grocery store family invests in Wellsville

As Nick Kusmierski walked around the Giant Food Mart grocery stores in Wellsville and Cuba on Monday, he wanted to meet each employee and let them know about the sale of the local stores to his family.

However, customers stopped him instead. They recognized him from his digital videos and ads for The Market in the Square, a popular place to shop and purchase a wide variety of groceries and fresh meals from scratch in West Seneca and North Tonawanda.

Shuttered factory is re-opened with new life

An oil and gas company that started in Western New York but moved to Texas is returning with a boom in Wellsville.

Kinley Construction is moving into the former Dresser-Rand building on Coats Street and work on complex steam turbines will once again take place in the major manufacturing facility.

Dresser-Rand was a shell of itself when the doors closed for good in 2020. But for decades, the manufacturing facility was the #1 employers in Allegany County.

Kinley Construction said their newest division with growing services and capabilities is called Kinley Advanced Technical Services (KATS). They will provide service, maintenance and parts manufacturing for a wide range of industrial engines, equipment and components.
