Alfred State Diver earns prestigous title after NCAA Championship

Conor Compton stands on the award stand after capturing 7th place at the NCAA Division III National Championship for performance on the 3m diving board.

 Alfred State first year student-athlete Conor Compton (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) dove to All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships. Compton finished 7th on the 3m board.

On the 3m board, Compton scored 453.60 points in the finals to claim 7th place out of the 23 divers in the competition. He qualified for the finals by scoring 467.25 points in the preliminary round.

On the 1m board, Compton finished 12th overall. He scored 426.75 points in the preliminaries and improved on that with a score of 435.15 in the consolation finals.

Compton scored 17 individual points that helped Alfred State place tied for 27th in the team standings. 47 teams scored during the four-day championship event.

Compton is the first Pioneer to earn NCAA All-American honors and was the first Pioneer diver to compete at Nationals.

His trip to Nationals capped a season where he set new college records on both the 1m and 3m boards for both the 6-dive and 11-dive programs and was named the AMCC Diver and Newcomer of the Year.
