A house fire and a vehicle fire on Sunday December 11

City of Olean Firefighters responded to a reported working structure fire earlier this evening at 208 West Green Street. Below are Firefighter Jordan Smith (on the nozzle) and Lieutenant Brian Livoto (backing him up) making entry into the residence.
The cause of this fire is currently under investigation by the City of Olean Fire Investigation Team.

Structure Fire at 208 ½ West Green Street
On Sunday, December 11th, at approximately 6:06 pm, City of Olean Firefighters were alerted to a structure fire with visible flames showing at 208 ½ West Green Street. The City of Olean Fire Department initially responded with two engines with a crew of three personnel each. Fire crews were on scene at 6:09pm, reporting large amount of smoke and flames showing from the front, right-side apartment. Fire crews stretched a 1 ¾” hose line and utilized hand tools to knock down the bulk of the fire at the front door. As the fire crews advanced they were met with heavy smoke and residual flames inside the structure. Fire crews extinguished the remaining fire, ventilated the building and fire was logged under control at 6:29 pm. All occupants evacuated without injury and were assisted further on scene. Damage to structure and contents is estimated at $25,000. City of Olean Code Enforcement has posted the involved apartment as uninhabitable.
City of Olean Fire crews were assisted by Deputy 4, Weston Mills Fire Department, Portville Fire Department, Allegany Rescue, Allegany Fire Department, and Hinsdale Fire Department. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation at this time by the City of Olean Fire Investigation Team. City of Olean Fire units were clear of the scene at 8:45 pm.
Vehicle fire next to residence at 302 East Oak Street
On Sunday, December 11th 2022 at 7:39 pm the City of Olean Fire Department along with the Allegany Fire Department were dispatched for the report of a van on fire near a residence. The Allegany Fire Department responded from Central Fire while being on standby for the City of Olean due to a separate fire incident ongoing at the time. City of Olean Engine 42 responded with a crew of four along with an Engine and Ladder from Allegany. While responding, units were advised that they believe the fire is out. Units arrived on scene with no smoke or fire visible. Crews began investigation and found some electrical wiring and the housing of the headlight melted. Operator of the vehicle states he noticed flames from behind the headlight after pulling in the driveway. Operator was able to use a nearby garden hose to extinguish the flames preventing damage to the structure. City of Olean and Allegany fire crews checked the area with a Thermal Imaging Camera and found some residual heat and additional water was applied by fire personnel. The fire was then determined to be out and the investigation revealed that the cause of the fire was electrical. Fire crews were assisted on scene by City of Olean Police and all units cleared the scene at 8:00 pm.
