Michael T. Baldwin: Highlights from Wednesday Legislative marathon in Allegany County

Legislators tackle dozens of resolutions this week in Belmont

The Allegany County Legislature had a crazy packed agenda Wednesday afternoon, dealing with 50 resolutions. Here are some highlights:

·         Adopted a local law establishing the Office of Conflict Defender(read more about this)

·         Approved the creation and implementation of a Space Needs subcommittee.

·         Approved a memorandum of understanding between the county and A.F.S.C.M.E. NY Council Local 2574. The County and New York Council 66, Local 2574 have agreed upon the terms and conditions for the incorporation of a twelve-hour workday schedule and a new salary schedule for the Emergency Service Dispatcher titles covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

·         Approved the reappointment of Michael J. McCormick of Andover as an Allegany County Election Commissioner.

·         Legislators approved that Daniel Marsh and Tom Sampson are each appointed to the Southwestern Regional Emergency Management Services Council for a four-year term commencing on January 1, 2023, and expiring on December 31, 2026.

·         Adopted the 2023 county budget and approved the levy of county taxes in the amount of $29,731,987

·         The Board of Legislators approved the payment by the Allegany County Office of Emergency Services for up to 10 students to attend and complete an EMT- Paramedic course to be held at the Public Safety Building, 4448 State Route 19, Belmont, New York, with the labs to be completed at the Crossroads Building, at a cost of $5,552 per student.

·         Approved a grant application submission for body worn cameras.
