The school board in Andover NY posted this notice of a special meeting planned for today:
“Dear Andover School Community –
This is notice of a Special Board of Education Meeting to be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, September 22, 2022 in Room 108.
Please note – this meeting will not be livestreamed.“
An agenda released by the school indicates that the special meeting will be to bring a new school superintendent on board. Current acting superintendent, Kathryn Slavinski, will be relieved of her temporary charge and David Hanks will be installed as the new ACS Superintendent.
Hanks, a veteran administrator, retired from Fillmore Central School in 2009. But he got is start in Andover in the late 1970’s. Hanks explained that he was a guidance counselor and basketball coach in Andover until 1982.
We asked Hanks why, after over a decade of retirement, was planning to get back in the game?
“I actually didn’t. They reached out to me. I had done several schools since retiring from Fillmore but really was not planning on any more. But Andover is where I essentially started my career.”
Hanks explained that he has long been an advocate for Allegany county public schools:
“The rural schools in Allegany County have always been special places. By design my wife and I raised and educated our children in Allegany County.”
