David A Howe Library to host Wellsville native, author Tom Vossler on November 1st

Vossler is Civil War historian and authority on the Battle of Gettysburg

The David A. Howe Public Library is pleased to welcome author, retired US Army Colonel, licensed Gettysburg Battlefield Tour Guide, and Wellsville native Tom Vossler, who will be discussing his Civil War books in his presentation “Whose Hollowed Grounds: The Farms that Became Battlefields”.

Tom is a graduate of The Pennsylvania Military College, Georgia State University, the US Army Command & General Staff College, and the US Army War College. He began his career in the US Army in 1968, retiring in 1998. Since his retirement Tom has worked as an independent contractor/historian and as a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Gettysburg, where he specializes in battlefield studies and leadership seminars for the U.S. military as well as military units from Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada. Tom’s individual battlefield clients include the late ABC News anchorman Peter Jennings, movie actor Richard Dreyfus, former Texas Governor Rick Perry and former U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.  Tom also conducts upon request individual and family-oriented tours of the Gettysburg Battlefield. His television credits include participation in two productions for The History Channel, an appearance on C-Span3 for their “American Artifacts” series, an appearance on Farm Journal Television, and numerous appearances on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN) discussing the Battle at Gettysburg and the leadership of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. In the fall of 2020, at the request of the Army Heritage Center Foundation, Tom served as moderator of a seven-part video production on the Congressional Medal of Honor Lessons of Core Values Program.

Tom has many published books on the American Civil War. They include “The Gettysburg Campaign” and the award winning “A Field Guide to Gettysburg”, both with Carol Reardon, “A Field Guide to Antietam”, and “Battle Tested – Gettysburg Leadership Lessons for 21st Century Leaders”, with co-author Jeff McCausland”.

This presentation will take place on Tuesday, November 1st, at 7pm in the Nancy Howe Auditorium of the David A. Howe Public Library in Wellsville NY. In addition to this presentation, there will be a small display of Civil War weaponry provided by Paul Vossler of Wellsville. This program is free and open to everyone.
