Rumors Abound

Heading into the preseason the Bills appear to be stacked at the wide receiver position. However, it has not stopped the rumor mill from spinning regarding a certain star pass catcher. Could Odell Beckham Jr. be suiting up for the Bills at some point this season?

Recruiting a Star

Flirtations between Beckham Jr. and one of the Bills star players have intensified over the past couple weeks. Defensive end Von Miller who signed a massive multi-year deal with the Bills this offseason has been applying the full-court press in an effort to recruit OBJ to Buffalo. The two were teammates on the Super Bowl champion Rams last season and could be primed to chase another ring together with the Bills. At one point Miller posted an image to his Instagram page of OBJ wearing a Bills uniform to which the receiver responded “what does the locker next to you look like.”

Waiting on OBJ

The much maligned receiver was last on the field in the Super Bowl at which time he suffered a torn ACL. OBJ isn’t expected to be game ready until October or November. NFL insider Jeremy Fowler believes OBJ will “take his time” choosing his next team, but expects him to sign with a “contender,” and Buffalo fits that Bill. Additionally, NFL insider Ian Rapoport was quoted as saying “Buffalo makes sense for OBJ and the Bills are always in the mix.”

My Two Cents

The Bills clearly have two starting caliber wide receivers in Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis. Beyond those two and Isiah McKenzie in the slot, the team lacks experienced depth at the position. OBJ comes with extensive baggage and a history of injuries, but the raw talent he possesses is undeniable. In a Super Bowl or bust season for a championship starved community, I believe the Bills should go all in and sign Odell Beckham Jr. once he’s healthy.
