By Carl Swain of Sparks, Nevada

I was born in Warsaw NY in 1943 was raised in Allegany County. I graduated from Rushford Central School in 1961 and eventually married a Belfast girl who taught school in Belmont. After earning a degree in Education from St. Bonaventure, I also taught in Belmont until in a crazy twist of life, we moved our small family to Carson City, Nevada where we both continued teaching and raised our kids.

After graduating high school in Carson City, our oldest daughter, Carla, moved back to the Belfast area and subsequently married Scott Fuller from Caneadea and they have three children who all graduated from Belfast Central.

Their middle child, Randy Scott Fuller is currently married to his beautiful wife , Jesse, and they live in Kentucky with one year old son, Oz. Last year Jesse was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer for which she currently receives treatment at the University of Kentucky.

On Saturday, June 25 of this year, after weeks of planning and extremely hard work by dozens of relatives, friends and neighbors, the town of Belfast sponsored a benefit for Randy, Jesse and Oz, the theme of which was, “Fuller Strong”. I flew back for the benefit and was totally in awe by the love and compassion demonstrated at the event along with thousands of dollars raised to help them battle this horrible disease!!I would never attempt to list all of the individuals, businesses and organizations who contributed to the success of the memorable occasion , but I wish to publicly thank every single person or entity who helped plan or donated or worked at or donated in any way! What a wonderful example of small town America and how they step up for one of their own!! From the depths of our hearts and souls, my entire family says thank you and God Bless!
